Career Journey Key Seasons
2012
Quiet Debut — Punjab Kings
Signed by PBKS as a replacement in 2011 but sat out the entire season. Finally gets games in 2012 — 98 runs in 6 matches. A modest start for one of T20 cricket's most feared finishers.
2013
🔥 101* off 38 Balls — 3rd Fastest IPL Century Ever
Chasing 191 vs RCB at Mohali: 101* off 38 balls, 8 fours, 7 sixes. PBKS win with 12 balls to spare. Virat Kohli, who dropped Miller on 41, calls it one of the best IPL innings he'd ever seen. 418 runs in the season at avg 59.7, SR 164.6. The Killer is born.
2014
446 Runs — PBKS Reach the Final
446 runs, avg 44.6, SR 149.2, 3 fifties. Partners brilliantly with Maxwell (552 runs) as PBKS make their first and only IPL final. Miller retained for Rs 12.5 crore — then the most expensive overseas player retained.
2016
Captain for Six Games — Then Replaced
Named captain of PBKS for 2016. After losing 5 of 6 games, removed and replaced by Murali Vijay. Scores 250 runs that season. A brief, difficult chapter in an otherwise loyal PBKS stint.
2021
Difficult Spell at Rajasthan Royals
Bought by RR for Rs 75 lakh — just his base price. Plays only 7 matches in two seasons (2020–21), scoring 86 runs in 2021 with limited opportunities. Quietly moves to the 2022 mega auction pool.
2022
🏆 Redemption — 481 Runs, Gujarat Titans Win the Title
GT buy him for just Rs 3 crore. He delivers their greatest individual batting season: 481 runs, avg 68.71, SR 142.7. GT become IPL champions in their very first season. Miller is the heartbeat of their title-winning campaign.
2025
New Chapter — Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 7.5 Crore
GT release him. LSG win a bidding war vs RCB and DC, paying Rs 7.5 crore. Scores 182 runs in 12 matches. Now with DC for IPL 2026 — signed for Rs 2 crore as his veteran journey continues.
Did You Know?
Miller scored 101* off just 38 balls in 2013 — the third-fastest century in IPL history. When Virat Kohli dropped him on 41 that day, he said afterwards it was 'one of the best innings I've ever seen in the IPL.'
Miller holds the world record for the fastest T20I century — 35 balls against Bangladesh in 2017. He also holds the record for the fastest T20I century against full-member ICC nations. Pure, unadulterated ball-striking.
Gujarat Titans bought him for just Rs 3 crore in 2022 after two quiet seasons at RR. He repaid them with 481 runs at avg 68.71 as GT won the IPL title in their debut season — one of the best value-for-money signings in IPL history.
Miller spent 8 consecutive seasons at Punjab Kings (2012–2019) — one of the longest franchise loyalties by an overseas player in IPL history. He was briefly captain in 2016 before being replaced after a poor start.
Alongside Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, Miller was part of the legendary 2014 PBKS batting lineup that also included Glenn Maxwell. That year, Maxwell (552) and Miller (446) combined for nearly 1,000 runs to carry Punjab to the final.
At the 2023 ODI World Cup, Miller scored 356 runs at avg 45 including a semi-final century against Australia — the most by a South African in that tournament. South Africa reached their first-ever World Cup final before losing to India.
